Knitted Love

It seems I can’t avoid setting deadlines for myself. I woke up on February 1st and asked Mike “Do you think it’s doable for me to knit Carys a sweater and Sairshe some socks by Valentine’s Day?” I didn’t add that I also wanted to squeeze in the fingerless gloves for him that had been promised to him a long 13 months ago.  He said he thought I could do it so off I went. I managed to get everything done but it was a close call and I didn’t finish until the evening of the 13th. Everyone loved their knitted hearts so it was worth it.

Mike and I decorated our dining room after the kids went to bed and it was so fun and festive to start our day with presents and heart shaped food for breakfast.

Mike’s mittens turned out great. (They’re Arden mittens for those who care.) They’re super soft and I sewed a red cashmere heart to the inside of one so he has a little bit of love with him when he wears them.

Sairshe got pink and purple striped socks with hearts on the heel. I didn’t set out to make socks that match her wool poncho but it’s cute it turned out that way. They weren’t really a surprise since I had to have her try them on a few days ago but she was still super excited to open up her package and she immediately put them on her hands like mittens and did a little dance in her chair. When she finally put them on her feet she declared that they fit perfectly.

Carys Áine finally got something knitted just for her. A cute sweater with gray trim and an embroidered gray heart. (I somewhat followed the pattern for the Peace Baby sweater.) She gasped with joy when she opened it up and was really excited about her sweater. She is so quick to say thank you, especially for a two year old. I should give her presents more often.

Finally, check out what Sairshe wore to school today. (Pardon the post swim lesson, can’t-stand-still, slightly blurry picture of her.) I first made her this dress when she was two! You can see more cute pictures of toddler Sairshe wearing it here. The pattern is called the Two Summer Sundress but this is the FOURTH Valentine’s Day she’s been able to wear it. It’s like a magic dress. I’m pretty sure she’ll be taking it to college with her.

I hope you all had a nice day with your loved ones! Did you give any handmade gifts?
