Sesame Seed Designs

Last month I had an all-day workshop to sit through and late the night before I decided that I should bring something with me to knit since I get antsy just sitting for long blocks of time. I picked some wool yarn ( a discontinued Anny Blatt yarn) I had in the closet and quickly settled on this pattern (the Miss Marple Sweater) and didn’t give it much thought. Once I was a good deal into it, Sairshe started saying it felt too scratchy. She’d yell out “too scratchy!” as she ran by me while I sat on the couch and knitted away. It was ridiculous. It’s not scratchy. I thought about ripping it out and knitting something for myself instead but I powered through. Good thing. She’s worn it almost every day since I’ve finished and I haven’t heard the ‘s’ word once.

My girls are morning people. Mike and I do a fair amount of grumbling when Saturday morning arrives before we’re quite ready for it but honestly we wouldn’t change it. Most of these pictures were taken in the morning before school. We played in the little natural space at the end of our block. We’d already eaten, gotten dressed, made lunches, played (them) and checked facebook (me). It was 7:30.

Sairshe wanted rainbow buttons but changed her mind when she saw a piece of fabric with kitties on it. She helped me make these buttons, also in the morning before school. The buttons alternate cat faces and roses. They’re her favorite part.

This sweater is great because she can wear it climbing trees (already been done) but it can be dressed up as well, as seen in her after-school outfit of choice. Actually, she climbed a tree wearing both the cardigan and the party dress.

Sairshe loves taking pictures and she’s starting to actually take the time to line up some good shots. I love this one she took of Carys Áine and I.

Sairshe bent this branch down to smell this huge rose. A second after I snapped this shot she let go and the rose flung back up into the air. The force caused all the petals to fly off and rain down on us. It’s our neighbor’s plant. Oops. Good thing they’re friends.

We don’t often take pictures of the 4 of us all together. Mike came out to tell us it was dinner time and we managed to get a decent self-portrait of all of us.

Autumn always inspires me to make cozy things. Have you been crafting anything lately? Leave me a comment here.
