I too went with a scrapbook gift - I did a digital photo book "Remembering Grandma" - the text was the eulogy I delivered (& 1 old blog posting about her) & I pulled pictures from lots of different "eras" to incorporate. My Mom was in town the first week of this month so I was actually able to give it to her in person. What a wonderful gift for your Mom.
